November Local Feature: Photography by Alyssum

Welcome to my first post of a series: Colorado Local Features! I moved to Colorado 8 years ago and it has truly become home. It is a fantastic place to raise a family and I’m blessed to have the best years of my life here.

There are so many restaurants, breweries, shops, and amazing small businesses in Denver, and I can’t wait to showcase some of my favorites!

Without further ado, the first business I’d like to share with you is Photography by Alyssum. I first found Alyssum last spring when I was searching for Denver photographers to take family pictures that aligned with my style. Being a blogger, I am picky when it comes to photography. When I saw Alyssum’s page, it stopped me dead in my tracks. Her photos are crisp, candid, and absolutely stunning. She is best known for her “golden hour” photos that capture real family moments.

I knew instantly she was the perfect photographer for us: she is also a mom of two young children, she’s extremely genuine, and she makes even the least photogenic person feel comfortable (my husband!). Everything feels natural when working with Alyssum and she stays so calm and collected when working with the toughest of clients…KIDS!

Alyssum moved to Castle Rock, Colorado from Hudson, Ohio with her husband and two children, Tyler 5 and Lily 3. Her love for photography began in high school and college when she took her introductory courses, but really took off when her children were born, thanks to the age of social media. Alyssum would post pictures of her kids, and before she knew it, people were asking her to take pictures of their children and families and PAY her for it (GASP!). And so her business began. Moving to Colorado in 2017, she was able to really start fresh with a solid plan and specific direction. She was, after all, a stay at home mom, so she decided that she wanted her business to be a true reflection of her soul.

When booking a session with Alyssum, her #1 priority is to serve your family and capture natural interaction and meaningful images. She wants each individual personality to shine through, and she wants everyone to have fun! If you look at her portfolio, you’ll notice that the majority of her images are candid, one-of-a-kind captures, and that is what sets her work apart!

A couple times a year, Alyssum breaks away from her typical family sessions and offers mini sessions for clients looking for some quick, updated family portraits for the Christmas card or the mantle. The next available mini session will be Christmas themed (like ours below!) and offered on December 1.

If you are in the Denver area, I highly recommend Alyssum for your holiday minis, lifestyle, newborn, or family photos! You can learn more about everything she has to offer here.
